Lesson 15
​Holy Communion is a sacred act of remembering Christ’s sacrifice. This lesson explores its meaning, emphasizing reflection, gratitude, and renewal in faith. Holy Communion​
Holy Communion is one of two ordinances given to the church by the Lord Jesus Christ. Water Baptism is the first one.
1. What is an Ordinace?
a. Webster says it is, "an established rule, rite or law"
b. Water Baptism and Holy Communion are ordinances established by Jesus before He left this earth to go home to the Father.
c. Remember the principal value of a parable.
2. What is the purpose of Holy Communion?
a. To commemorate the death of our Lord Jesus Christ.
b. To receive anew the benefits of the broken body and shed blood of our Lord Jesus.
c. To enjoy the fellowship of the Lord's presence with other Christians.
d. To be obedient to our Father's request.
3. How often should we observe the ordinance of Water Baptism and Holy Communion?
a. Water baptism is observed only once at the beginning of the Christian life when a person becomes born again. Refer to the

b. Holy Communion is observed whenever Christians desire to have special fellowship and communion with the Lord and with
other Christians. Usually this is observed once a month.

4. A brief look at the Old Testament Passover.

a. The Passover was a Jewish feast to commemorate the deliverance of Israel from the bondage in Egypt. Exodus Ch.12.
b. The blood of the lamb over the door post was their deliverance from the death angel. Only the blood could save them.
c. This was a type of Jesus, THE LAMB OF GOD, giving Himself for a once and for all sacrifice that whosoever could be cleansed from SIN. This is also one of the 300 plus prophecies concerning the first coming of Jesus. Hebrews 7:27.
5. The New Testament Passover.
a. John 1:29 introduces us to THE LAMB OF GOD who takes away the SIN of all who will come to God through His only begotten Son through faith.
b. We must apply the Blood of Jesus to the doorpost of our heart along with asking for forgiveness in order to be cleansed from sin and receive eternal life. Refer to lesson # 1 and # 10 Acts 2:22-41, Isaiah 53:7, I Peter 1:18-19 and Revelation 13:8

6. The LORD'S LAST SUPPER

Jesus being a Jew, observed the Passover of the Old Testament with His disciples. (Luke 22:7-13) Jesus was aware that this would be the last time He would partake of the Passover Feast with His disciples. His desire was that His followers would remember all that He had taught them, especially that He was giving His life for them, so they could stand before God in all pureness, washed from all their sins.
a. Luke 22:14-20 shows us where Jesus used the Passover Feast communion, to transition into the New Covenant. Jesus established Holy Communion as an ordinance.
b. John 6:33 tells us who the Bread of Life is and where it came from.
c. Jesus said that the represented His body. In the garden of Gethsemane He suffered so much agony that He sweat as it were, great drops of blood. (Psalms 107:20)

Jesus was beaten, crowned with thorns, spit upon, and His very beard was plucked out.
The cruel treatment on the cross was another way His body was broken, so we could receive eternal life.

d. Three things we can receive by FAITH when we partake of Holy Communion are, HEALING, STRENGTH AND DIVINE HEALTH.

e. The ELEMENT of the "CUP", represent, CLEANSING, REMISSION, CANCELLATION and FORGIVENESS OF OUR SINS. (Psalms 103:1-22)
7. In ancient times people usually entered into most of their agreements by signing them with blood. These were then called blood covenants.

a. Exodus 24:8 tells about the covenant God made with the children of Israel. God made His conditions known and the
people agreed with them.

b. I Corinthians 11:23-30 tells us what the conditions are for being New Covenant partakers of Holy Communion.

c. We should have a right relationship with God, through Jesus Christ His Son.
​
d. We should examine ourselves and confess any known sin BEFORE we receive HOLY COMMUNION. (I John 1:9)
