The Leadership of the Holy Spirit

1. REVIEW THE NIGHT OF THE LAST SUPPER

a. It was the Father and Son's plan to send the person of the Holy Spirit to live with you and be in you. (I Corinthians 3:16--YOU ARE THE TEMPLE OF GOD)

b. Jesus said. “it is expedient for you that I go away so I can send the Holy Spirit”. (John 16:7-15)

b. To GUIDE

c. To LEAD (Romans 8:14, Galatians 5:18)

d. To TEACH

e. To GIVE GIFTS OF SERVICE as in I Corinthians 12

f. To CALL us to different areas of ministry

3. PAUL SAID, THE HOLY SPIRIT IS A SURETY (A DOWN) PAYMENT TO ALL THE PROMISES THE FATHER HAS GIVEN HIS SON'S BRIDE. (Ephesians 1:13-14)

All of the gifts, all of the fruit, and everything else that God gives us are THROUGH THE PERSON OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

4. THE HOLY SPIRIT USES MANY SOURCES TO LEAD US. HE USES:

a. Apostles

b. Prophets

c. Evangelists

d. Pastors

e. Teachers in Ephesians 4:1-16, in I Corinthians 12:1-11

f. THE WRITTEN WORD - Study to show in, II Timothy 2:1

g. Be ye transformed, in Romans 12:1-2

5. AS WE GROW, THE HOLY SPIRIT LEADS US THROUGH OUR INNER BORN-AGAIN SPIRIT (Ephesians 1:17-23 and Ephesians 3:16-21)

a. The children of God are led by the Spirit of God (Romans 8:14).

b. Through a small still voice (I Kings 19:11-13).

c. He talks to us through our own thought process system.

d. If you can hear yourself think, you can be trained to listen to the Holy Spirit (THE BOOK OF ACTS).

e. The Holy Spirit speaks to our conscience.

f. On rare occasions a vision may be given.

g. Or, on rare occasions, a visitation of an angel or an appearance of Jesus may occur.

6. WE ARE STRONGLY INSTRUCTED TO TEST ALL THINGS

There are so many voices trying to get our attention. WHAT THREE VOICES ARE WE ABLE TO HEAR, WITH OUR INNER EAR?

a. Our Shepherd (John 10:7-18 and I John 4:1-3). We want to know the voice of our Shepherd (John 10:1-18).

b. Satan, as a roaring Lion (I Peter 5:8 and Ephesians 6:10-18 . We are not fighting flesh and blood but powers and principalities of powers.

c. Ourselves, with freedom to choose right from wrong, II Corinthians 10:3-10. We want to learn to recognize the voice of our Shepherd.

NOTE: The Holy Spirit talks to us, through our inner spirit as the small still voice. We can learn to recognize this as our Shepherd’s voice.

7. REVIEW; THE FOUR STAGES OF GROWTH.

a. The fourth step should be everyone’s GOAL. Growing to Christian maturity is God’s will for us.

b. We should use all of God's resources to become mature in Christ.

c. Be ready to grow in grace until Jesus comes (II Peter 3:18).

d. We can approach our test and training the way Jesus did, or we can approach our test and training the way Israel did.

Jesus completed His test in forty days.

Israel failed after forty years.

e. Hebrews chapter 11 says, we can be VICTORIOUS NO MATTER WHAT THE ENEMY THROWS AT US.

f. THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS RIGHTEOUSNESS, PEACE, AND JOY IN THE HOLY SPIRIT (Romans 14:17).

g. GREATER IS HE THAT IS IN US THAN HE THAT IS IN THE WORLD I John 4:4.

LET’S FINE TUNE - TRAINING OUR SPIRIT

TO BE ABLE TO LISTEN TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

1. Find a quiet place.

Jesus got up early to pray, Mark 1:35.

Habakkuk had a quiet place to pray, Habakkuk 2:1-3.

2. Start worshipping the Lord and visualize Him being right there with you. When you are born-again, He has come to live in your heart. (The Inner Man)

3. Get quiet and listen to the SPONTANEOUS THOUGHT FLOW FROM YOUR HEART. REMEMBER, THE HOLY SPIRIT DOES NOT WORK OUT OF YOUR HEAD.

4. Learn to LISTEN for the SMALL STILL VOICE that is FLOWING in our HEART.

We can easily break the thought flow by jumping in with our head--similar to the way we interrupt people who are talking to us.

If you are feeling fractured, stressed, or rushed, the enemy has slipped in, or you could be working out of your head and not your heart.

If you are feeling peace, healing, and the presence of the Lord, then you are listening to the Holy Spirit.

5. Write down the SPONTANEOUS thoughts that come from your heart.

6. Test all things. After we have completed our listening and journaling, then we can compare what we have written to what the scripture says.

REMEMBER: ALL THINGS ARE TO BE TESTED WITH THE WRITTEN WORD.

7. REVIEW: all of the scripture used in this lesson to help you to develop the confidence that your Heavenly Father wants to speak directly to you and that He uses the person of the Holy Spirit to accomplish this.

This should be a progressive exercise for the rest of our life because we are actually developing a two-way communication and fellowship with our Heavenly Father, Habakkuk 2:1-3.
